Working with latest VS 2017 Preview last December seemed to be the key factor. Windows has failed miserably on this one. Guess I'll have to move to another operating system that will run Photoshop.

If I try to reload again, it will simply try and do the update again and end up the same way since it has already tried 5 times and failed all five. Recovery says no system files found, but in command prompt they are all there. Mine is worse, it failed totally and now won't do anything but show trying to recover last version and then reboots.

The "Hold the shift key" option doesn't work and I don't have access to my original System disk. I get the normal Image I selected but it doesn't respond to internal or external Keyboard or pointing device.

I plugged in USB ones and managed to re-install the drivers with the Microsoft Troubleshooter. After the hours it took I found I couldn't use the Laptop keyboard or touchpad.

I accepted the massive Windows 10 update this week. So if it doesn't work automatically check the manufacturers site before going manual. The screen now has coloured lines across the bottom which weren't there before the update :-(. Their website says the ES1-512 wasn't one of the models tested.Ībout the only thing left to do is format & reinstall. There is a machine specific USB repair disk available in the US but it's not available online or in Australia. I created a windows 10 USB Installation & Repair disk easily enough & can make it boot but none of the options help. The Boot Config Data for your PC is missing or contains errors.

It wants me to install the Windows installation disk I don't have into a drive that doesn't exist to repair the computer. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause.

Īfter failing the 1709 update I tried the manual version, now when it boots it says: Was able to copy file using a boot disk & command prompt :-). Was working fine and started the (Microsoft initiated) updates etc after saving the authentication details to a file on the C Drive. Just picked up a secondhand ACER ES1-512 basic laptop with Windows 10 Home installed. Finally, I'm able to boot up my computer. Thanks for the instructions, it also helped me to get rid of this issue. and you will get the same options as described in #1. Instead of using it to do Clean Install as you said you did, there is a Repair option from the installation disk.Ĭlick it > Troubleshoot > Advanced options. You said you have windows 10 pro install disk. Windows 10 Safe Mode, click Startup Settings > click Restart button > there you have the choice of Safe Mode options.Ģ. Press Shift key and HOLD > click Restart > click Troubleshoot > click Advanced options > there you have various recovery options such as system restore, system image restore etc. Left click at Power icon will give you Restart option. Restart computer > at the logon screen ( don't sign in ), bottom right, there are 3 icons : I just want to say something about Safe Mode and other Recovery options in Windows 10.ġ. Not that it matters now that you have gone back to Win 7. Is there a fix for this issue in the meantime? It's possible, they just won't do it and this will cost them big time. Windows 10 will need to have at least a safe mode boot option before I would reconsider using it on any computer.

This exact same thing is now happening on multiple computers here at work and their computers came with windows 10 pre-installed, recovery options can't find any of the images to restore from nor installation on the partition. That I can restore from if there were issues. I would normally write this off as a one off incident, blaming myself for not backing up my pictures and documents every day, even though I kept regular images that I thought I ended up losing around 10 years of documents and pictures, totaling over 30 gigs. You cannot get into safe mode if the system doesn't start normally, even though safe mode is for systems that do not start normally. Windows 10 cannot boot into Safe Mode, unless you can logon and tell the computer to reboot

This would have been OK, if I had a Safe Mode boot option/with Networking where I can offload my data to another computer or drive prior to reinstallation of the OS. I experienced this on my home computer a few weeks ago, had a windows 10 pro install disk, ended up having to do a fresh install as only option, but would not allow me to retain my data, even though it was on a separate
